Editorial standards

Useful coverage. Evidence you can check.

These standards guide how we select, write, review and maintain construction technology articles and tool listings.

Start with a real project decision

Our coverage is for people responsible for construction delivery. An article should explain who it helps, the workflow or decision involved, the evidence available and a useful next step. Project size, location, implementation effort and limitations matter as much as the technology.

Make the evidence visible

Material factual claims must be supported by accessible source links. We prefer original research, official documentation and direct project evidence. Dates, geography and assumptions belong alongside the numbers. Several outlets repeating one announcement do not provide independent confirmation.

Separate claims, tests and examples

Vendor-reported results must be identified as vendor claims. Illustrative calculations and proposed workflows must be labelled as examples, with their assumptions. A tool is only described as tested when an actual test has been performed and its method and limitations can be explained. A directory listing does not establish that a product is suitable for your project.

Use AI with editorial responsibility

AI may assist with discovering sources, organising evidence, drafting and checking articles. It must not invent quotes, case studies, product experience or results. Automated checks support review; a model agreeing with another model is not verification. Unsupported claims should be removed or held for review, and weak evidence is a reason to skip publication.

Keep people involved where judgement matters

Safety, engineering, legal or contractual advice, disputed claims and sensitive project information require human review before publication. New formats and exceptions also require review before they enter an automated publishing workflow. General articles and examples do not replace a qualified professional's assessment of a live project.

Keep commercial relationships clear

Paid placements must be labelled Sponsored. Referral links must disclose when we may earn a commission; a discount is only advertised when its terms are verified. Payment does not buy a positive review or change an editorial comparison. Free listings and non-paying alternatives can appear alongside commercial partners. Our own tools should be identified as our products.

Update and correct the record

Prices, features and availability change. Time-sensitive claims and offers should include a date checked. Material corrections should explain what changed and when, while preserving the original publication date. Reports of missing evidence, inaccurate statements or expired offers are welcome.
